It Isn’t Over

It was an honor to be with LMH Therapy Services Limb Loss Support Group as their monthly guest speaker. I want to extend my gratitude to them for having me as their guest and trusting me with their members. This was my first time being with a support group for amputees, so I didn’t know what to expect. The members had many questions and also shared their insights that I found to be valuable. Having my right leg amputated when I was one, I never really had to re-learn how to walk. I took my first steps on a prosthesis (many people like to let me know that this made it easier for me, as I never knew anything different. Maybe so. But I still always find that comment peculiar.)

During the meeting we explored may different things. Practical steps that help with everyday life, mindset and attitude. One of the themes that kept showing up was, transitions. All of the members lost a limb(s) in midlife and they have had to do the hard work of transitioning to being an amputee. And although I have never had to make that specific type of physical transition, I am no stranger to transitions. Transitions into a new socket, onto a new foot, transitions to a new season with different focus and goals. Transitions are inevitable. We all go through them and they can be challenging. Have you ever gone through an identity transition? Oof! Maybe you are going through some sort of your own transition in life. Maybe it’s a career transition, or a transition inside your business, maybe a relationship transition. Maybe your entire psyche is dissolving so something new can be formed within you.

Often times these transitions can feel so overwhelming that we can catastrophize and assume the best is behind us.

Whatever season you're in, don't mistake transition for the end of your story. It may simply be the place where the next chapter is being written. It takes time to learn how to walk again in new terrain. Pun intended.

What I want to hurry up and get to is what we landed on just in case you find yourself going through a challenging transition. “Life isn’t over, you are just in transition!”

Say it with me :)

It isn’t over. I’m just in transition!

All the best on your quest.
